ROLLING STOCK APPLICATIONSSeveral heritage railways use a composite brake block in place of R1/R2 and similar, and find the braking performance entirely consistent with trains of mixed ferrous/composite stock (though I would not recommend mixing blocks within vehicles). This block is available from me for that purpose. About Composite Brake BlocksComposite blocks comprise moulded, engineered braking materials whose friction characteristics are set in the laboratory rather than the foundry floor. The are moulded in the manner of slipper blocks, i.e. with steel loops set in for securing to a carrier. They have three main advantages:
